In this episode Hallie talks to Tiffany Lamberton, DDS about the role that the Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) and Temporomandibular Disorder (TMD) play in Myo. Dr. Lamberton shares her own journey, first as a Physical Therapist (PT) turned Dentist (DDS) and as the mother of a child with an obstructive sleep disorder. She shared that this journey taught her the importance of the TMJ in facial development and airway. She highlights the need to determine a healthy TMJ before establishing treatment plans and choosing oral appliances. Dr. Lamberton also shares her passion for interdisciplinary collaboration and plans for her practice, The TMD Collective.
I really liked listening to Dr. Tiffany, and I never realized that s chew or opening and closing of the mouth is indicative of TMJ. Thank you and btw, I too do pilates for my own physical alignment problems and just being more integrated and functional, like less pain and effort going up the steps. So thank you for verifying that as well. I really enjoyed this one, Haillie and cannot wait till the next and previous podcasts I’ve missed.
