Today Hallie speaks with Dr. Shereen Lim, airway centric dentist based out of Perth, Australia. Dr. Lim is the author of “Breathe, Sleep, Thrive: Discover How Airway Health Can Unlock Your Child’s Greater Health, Learning and Potential.” Her work in private practice is focused on tongue tie management from infancy to adulthood, early interceptive orthodontics and myofunctional therapy. Dr. Lim & Hallie discuss the importance of addressing mouth breathing in children, how mouth breathing sometimes persists after adenotonsillectomy, the impact of palatal expansion on breathing & sleep, breastfeeding, pacifiers, and SO much more! There is no topic left unturned in this episode.
I heard if child is open mouth breathing, then close lips, but what if they are compensating and then cannot breathe..? at all.
We do need to ensure they can nasal breathe before requiring lips to be closed (or working on that in therapy).
